Week 2: New Mexico State

(Louise Fish-Athens Messenger)

Week 2 is in the books for the Ohio Bobcats, as they improved their record to 2-0 with a 51-24 victory over the New Mexico State Aggies.  The Bobcats also wore another new uniform combination as they wore their white helmets, black jerseys and white pants for the first time ever.  This was the third game all time that the Bobcats wore black, bringing their record to 3-0.

Week 1: At Penn State

(A/P Photo/Gene J. Puskar)

The matte green helmets make their anticipated debuts in Week 1, in a very tough environment over in State College, PA.  Also interesting to note that along with Penn State, Ohio is wearing blue ribbons on the back of their helmets for child abuse awareness, an reminder there are much more important things in life than football

Season in Review: 2011

Before we get underway in 2012, I thought we could take a look back at last season, which will go down as one of the most successful seasons in Ohio University Football history.  A season of firsts, as the Bobcats got their first ever bowl win, and also wore black on the football field for the first time.  Here is a look at last year's schedule/results and the uniform combination.

Helmet Jersey Pants Result Score
at NMSU White White Green Win 44-24
Gardner Webb White Green White Win 30-3
Marshall White Black Black Win 44-7
at Rutgers White White Green Loss 26-38
Kent White Green White Win 17-10
at Buffalo White White Green Loss 37-38
Ball State White Green White Loss 20-23
at Akron White White Green Win 37-20
Temple Black Black Black Win 35-31
at CMU White White White Win 43-28
at BGSU White White Green Win 29-28
Miami White Green Green Win 21-14
at NIU* White White Green Loss 20-23

The 'Cats were undefeated in 4 different Uniform combinations: all black (1-0), all white (2-0), white helmet, black jersey/pants (1-0) and finally with white helmets, and green jersey/pants (1-0).  Ohio went 2-1 while wearing their standard home uniform (white helmet, green jersey, white pants) and were just .500 in their standard away uniform (white helmet, white jersey, green pants) coming in at 3-3.

As far as I know, the Bobcats will have all of the 2011 uniform combinations, as well as a new matte green helmet, pictured below (photo courtesy of @OHIOBobcatsFBEQ).  Be sure to check back early next week to see if the Bobcats debut their new helmet (Indications are yes).

Welcome

Hey guys,
Thanks for reading OhioUniTracker.  I got the idea from Tim E. O'Brien from CCSLC, which is a great board for those who are interested in Sport Uniforms.  So I decided to track the Bobcats, as they begin what is the most anticipated football season in school history.  Unfortunately, we have to wait until Saturday for the 'Cats to take the field in State College, PA., but it seems fitting that I start off this blog with a Press Conference from earlier this week, where Ohio Athletic Director, Jim Schaus, announced that Ohio University re-signed an apparel contract with Russell Athletic for the next 5 years.  Thanks for stopping by and GO CATS!
